#Delhi2013 – Are You One of the 12?

Terri Wingham is the founder and CEO of A Fresh Chapter, a cancer survivor, and someone who believes that we are not defined by the most difficult aspects of our story.

Written by Terri Wingham | September 25, 2012

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.
T. E. Lawrence

The last two weeks have taken me from Vancouver to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Moab, Denver, Seattle, and back to Vancouver. Along the way, I have seen the dream of #Delhi2013 light up in the eyes of other cancer survivors. Watching a dream grow into a shared vision has me feeling grateful, terrified, and incredibly excited.

So, what happens now?

It’s time for us to select the first 12 cancer survivors who will join us on A Fresh Chapter Adventure of their own. Although we would love to take everyone who applies, we want to ensure our 12 survivors come from as many diverse backgrounds as possible. This means we want men and women represented as well as different types of cancer and different lengths of time out of treatment.

This diverse group will help us conduct research about whether an international volunteer experience makes a meaningful impact on cancer survivors. We hope this research will set the stage for thousands more survivors to partake in a Fresh Chapter Adventure.

So, now we would love your help in spreading the word and/or taking action to join us. If you want to be one of the very first 12 survivors who will travel with us to India and participate in a customized Cross-Cultural Solutions volunteer program, we want to hear from you by Sunday, September 30th.

Here’s what YOU need to do in order to have a chance to be selected as one of the first 12 survivors to join us on this epic adventure:

  1. Write a blog post (max 500 words) or record a video (max 2 minutes) to share your story and why you think #Delhi2013 will help you start A Fresh Chapter in your life.
    1. If you want to use video and don’t know where to start, check out Viddy – http://www.viddy.com
  2. Post the video or the blog entry on your own blog/tumbler/youtube account and share the URL with us on the Facebook Page for A Fresh Chapter or on Twitter using the hashtag #Delhi2013.*
    1. If you don’t have your own personal blog, email Mark Guay (one of the Fresh Chapter Foundation Co-Dreamers) at mguay@afreshchapter.com and he will coordinate to ensure your content is shared as a guest post on A Fresh Chapter.
  3. Spread the word to as many people as you can about why you think #Delhi2013 will help you write a chapter in your post-treatment story. We can’t wait to read the comments of support from your friends and family about why THEY think you should be one of the first 12 to experience this Fresh Chapter Adventure.**

If you have not yet signed up for the #Delhi2013 Tribe and need more information to decide if this trip is right for you, click HERE and scroll down to sign up. As soon as you have confirmed your email subscription, we will send you a full package of information on #Delhi2013.

If you are new to A Fresh Chapter and want to know why we think magic is going to happen in India, check out the Moonrider Productions video below about the power of #livingthedream.

*If the thought of sharing your cancer story on a public forum like Facebook or Twitter makes your mouth turn to chalk and your knees shake, send me an email. We want to inspire you to dream big, but we also understand that you may not be comfortable going public with your cancer story yet. If you truly believe #Delhi2013 is your next big hairy audacious dream, let’s brainstorm a way to make that happen.

**Potential participants will not be selected for the trip based on how many comments or likes on Facebook you receive. Sharing your story on social media is simply a way to get your friends and family excited about YOUR new dream, but this is not a necessary step to being able to join us for #Delhi2013.

Be Sociable, Share!
