My 4 Minutes on Breakfast Television
My racing pulse, dry mouth, and a last minute desire to hide in the bathroom stall all disappeared as soon as I sat down on City TV’s blue couch with co-host Jody Vance. She instantly put me at ease as we chatted about the often misunderstood challenges cancer survivors face as they round the corner out of active treatment and set foot onto the what-the-hell comes-now path of post-cancer life.
Today’s segment was such a beautiful full circle moment for me. You see, it was a conversation about survivorship and its challenges with a fellow breast cancer survivor that led to an introduction to the Vancouver Breakfast Television team. But the full circle moment didn’t end there.
A few hours later, I looked over my Whole Foods salad and into the anxious face of a Twitter friend who has just completed treatment. The pain and frustration in her voice about her current state of limbo brought me back to a moment 2 years ago when I sat in a drafty hospital gown waiting for my final surgery to begin. Seeing her sadness at how cancer has robbed her of her youth reminded me how important it was for me to take that initial leap of faith and volunteer in Africa for the first time.
If all of this wasn’t enough, tonight I received an email from another new online friend who has recently found herself in the depths of treatment and all of the terrifying uncertainties that go with it. Her message said, “I seriously can’t wait till I’m part of a trip. It’s a goal that helps me get through some dark days.”
This is why #Delhi2013 is meant to happen. This is why, even though I am terrible at asking for help and would rather scrub floors with a toothbrush than keep asking for money, I am able to sit here tonight and write the words:
Please donate what you can. Your support will change lives.
#Delhi2013 is not about me. It’s about the 12 inspiring cancer survivors who are about to fly to the other side of the world. It’s about the birth of a brand new foundation that will change the lives of thousands of people. And, it’s about giving people hope.
So, thank you to all of the Angels who are making dreams come true for our first 12 cancer survivors and helping us ensure that others will be able to follow in their footsteps. Every single dollar counts and there is no way we could do this without your support.
You are chasing dreams with us and helping us believe that with enough hard work and determination, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Terri, you continue to be an amazing woman of strength for so many others. Blessings for all you do.
I know cancer is tough and it is no cake walk. But as a fellow survivor I say keep a positive attitude towards life and friendships.
