How A Climb to Everest Base Camp is Changing The Game For A Fresh Chapter…
A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality. ~ John Lennon
Mount Everest. The Mac Daddy of Moutains. The maker of dreams and the breaker of hearts. Have you ever pictured standing in front of this awe-inspiring feat of nature? Your feet on the rocks, the cold air on your face, and nothing but blue sky and its majesty staring back at you?
To be honest, an adventure of this magnitude would scare the pants off me.
But, for Nisha Paul – a friend and champion of the Fresh Chapter Alliance Foundation (FCAF) – Mount Everest has been on her wish list since she was a child growing up in India. After months of planning, she is about to pack her bags, close the door on her home in Canada, and travel to the other side of the world to make her dream come true.
To add meaning to an already incredible experience, Nisha plans to raise $5,000 for FCAF, so cancer survivors from across North America will have the chance to experience volunteering and bucket list adventures of their own.
Meet Nisha Paul – Our First ‘FCAF Game Changer’
Merriam-Webster defines a game changer as ~ a newly introduced element or factor that changes an existing situation or activity in a significant way.
Today, we couldn’t be more excited about how we’re changing the game at A Fresh Chapter. Here is our definition of a FCAF Game Changer ~ someone committed to making a dream come true while fundraising to support FCAF at the same time.
When I asked Nisha why she wanted to be a FCAF Game Changer and use her dream to support cancer survivors with volunteer and bucket-list adventures, this is what she said, “My father died of cancer and in some ways I am dedicating this trek to my parents from whom I get my passion for travel and adventure.“
When she told me this, a lump instantly formed in my throat as I remembered how it felt to see my Dad in the hospital 3 years ago. Even having cancer myself didn’t compare to how helpless I felt when my Dad was sick.
I couldn’t be more humbled or inspired by Nisha’s determination to channel her own struggles into helping ignite a spark of possibility, purpose, and connection for cancer survivors.
“FCAF gives me the right mix of India and Canada with the projects impacting people from both countries while focusing on a philosophy I have grown up with ‘accept the challenges in life, dust yourself off and use the learning from the experience to move on and make an impact in a positive way,'” says Nisha.
What a perfect life philosophy for someone who is helping us change the game.
