Redefining Cancer Support. Today is the Last Day to Apply To Join Us for Two Weeks In India.

Terri Wingham is the founder and CEO of A Fresh Chapter, a cancer survivor, and someone who believes that we are not defined by the most difficult aspects of our story.

It’s the final day for those impacted by cancer to apply for a meaningful adventure on the other side of the world. Some of our most powerful stories come from participants who heard about our Delhi2013 and Delhi2014 adventures in the final hours. They clicked on a link or read an email forwarded by a friend and with a racing heart, they applied with only minutes to spare.

So, whether you just found out about FCAF India or you keep coming back to www.afreshchapter.com with butterflies in your stomach at the thought of applying to join us for Delhi2015 from February 28 – March 14, 2015, this post is for you.

Why India?

Chris with kids at volunteer placementA culture of vibrant color and centuries of wisdom, India provides a perfect backdrop for a meaningful and safe volunteer adventure. While in New Delhi, you will be matched – based on your skills and interests – to a local community project. Whether at Mother Teresa’s spending time with physically and mentally challenged women, a school where you help teenagers practice their English skills, or an underfunded daycare where you support teachers with rambunctious kids, each morning, you’ll remember the joy of giving back. Then, in the afternoons, it’s on to experiencing the best of the Indian culture. You’ll explore markets, visit temples, and listen to experts share the inside perspective on everything from India’s history to the national cancer landscape.

Will I Be Safe?

Your safety is one of our most important priorities. We partner with Cross-Cultural Solutions – an established New York based organization with a long track record of successful programs. The local staff has become like family to us and they go out of their way to create a safe haven for us amidst the intriguing chaos of New Delhi. They take care of every detail in terms of our meals, accommodation, volunteer placement, transportation, clean drinking water and safety, so we can focus on making the most of the adventure.

Will It Be All About Cancer?

IMG_2076We love creating experiences for those impacted by cancer to expand the story far beyond the disease. We will not trade laundry lists of treatments and get into comparisons about who had the toughest time with chemo or surgery. We believe that no matter what type of cancer you have experienced or how aggressive the treatment is/was, you deserve the chance to move beyond that story.

However, we also believe in creating opportunities for you to process some of the difficult emotions stirred up by a diagnosis and treatment. So, throughout our two weeks together, we will weave in solo and group activities to help you take stock of where you are now, let go of some of the heavy emotional load you might be carrying, and give you room to envision where you go from here.

We Can’t Wait To Hear Your Story

If you have a dream of joining us, but you’re nervous about going to India, you are not alone. Everyone who has joined us for the past two years experienced an abundance of both nerves and excitement. Cancer can take away our confidence and make it feel like we can’t have big adventures anymore. But, we believe in creating a safe opportunity for you to challenge yourself to move far beyond the borders of what you thought possible. We would love you to join the ranks of our FCAF Alumni who said, “If I can make it to India, I can do anything.”
