Proust Questionnaire: Interview With Stacy

Written by Lyndsey Womack | October 10, 2018

We at A Fresh Chapter developed this version of the Proust Questionnaire, a parlor game from the late 19th century. Popularized by the French essayist and novelist Marcel Proust, the questionnaire was designed to reveal your true nature.

Stacy Stec serves as AFC’s Program Coordinator, supporting participants and coordinating a variety of logistical details. She is also a member of the Peru 2016 tribe.

What are your favorite qualities in a person? I try to surround myself with people who are positive, loyal, reliable, thoughtful and deliberate.

What is your dream job? My dream job would be a nature photographer.  I love being able to use art as a tool of expression, stress relief and communication. And being paid for it would be a bonus!

What is your idea of happiness? Being surrounded by my friends and family, laughing and having spirited conversations.

What talent do you wish you had? Singing. I love to sing but am really terrible at it! Luckily, my kids don’t care, so we belt out songs in the car together.

What is your motto, when traveling? “You can’t knock it unless you try it.” I try to be open-minded and willing to experience everything a new city or country has to offer.

Who are your favorite heroes/heroines in fiction or real life? I really admire Michelle Obama. I think she is such a model of grace and dignity.

What have you learned from your involvement with A Fresh Chapter? So, so much! I think my life has become fuller, thanks to A Fresh Chapter. I have gained a different perspective on life. I think I am better able to empathize with others and focus on being present.

What do you consider your greatest achievement? Definitely my kids. After I’m gone, they will be my legacy. They are the reason I do almost everything that I do. When I was going through treatment for cancer, they are the reason that I got out of bed every morning, instead of just curling up into a blubbering ball of self-pity.

What words or phrases do you overuse? Exclamation points!  Sometimes, I will write a whole email and realize that every single sentence ends in an exclamation point. I often have to go back through and edit out my exclamation points. I’m sure this questionnaire is riddled with them!

If you could save one non-living thing from a fire, what would it be? The family photo albums that my mother put together.  She researched our family tree and put together pictures and articles going back many generations.

What is your most treasured possession? I am sentimental, and so I treasure those little trinkets and scraps that hold meaning and memories for me. I still have the very first note that my husband left in my high school locker, when we were 16 years old and had just started dating. I save little notes from my kids, ticket stubs, cards…I cried when I sold my daughter’s crib set.

Who has taught you the most about resiliency? My Peru 2016 Tribe. What an amazing group of people. The resiliency that I have witnessed in them has really inspired me in my own life.
