The Voice of Adventure…

“There is a rawness and wonder to life. Pursue it. Hunt for it. Sell out to get it. Don’t listen to the whines of those who have settled for a second rate life and want you to do the same so they won’t feel guilty. Your goal is not to live long, it’s to live.

Jesus says the options are clear. On one side, there is the voice of safety. You can build a fire in your hearth, stay inside and stay warm and safe and dry. Or you can hear the voice of adventure – God’s Adventure.

Instead of building a fire in your hearth, build a fire in your heart. Follow God’s impulses. Adopt the child. Move overseas. Teach the class. Change careers. Run for office. Make a difference. Sure it isn’t safe, but what is?” – Max Lucado

Regardless of your spiritual frame of reference, I thought you might like this excerpt my Dad emailed me from his daily reflections book, “Grace For The Moment”.

While watching the sun rise over the Taj Mahal last weekend, with a brand new soul sister and fellow Cross-Cultural Solutions volunteer, I felt such gratitude for this Adventure of Hope. Every day brings new opportunities to see the world and to build connections with my fellow volunteers; the inspiring people who run NGOs like Sympameals, Thuy’s Dream, and CanSupport; my amazing international volunteer partners and hopefully, all of you.

What about you? Is there a voice of adventure buried somewhere beneath your obligations and the stresses of your day to day life? What is it saying?

Here are a few more of my favourite pictures from last weekend…

I have so loved it since my Dad sent it to me and am so happy I found a chance to share it. I just updated it with the author’s name – Max Lucado. See you soon:)

In my head I just yelled “Taj hat!!”
It’s time for me to get some sleep. 🙂 Hello to England…

Haha. Taj hat for sure 😉 Hello back from England. Getting over the jet lag and settling in quite nicely. Enjoy your last week and say hello to everyone for me:)

Great post Terri! That was also one of my favorite lines too: Your goal is not to live long. It’s to live. Love it!

Thanks Angelica. I love this quote so much that I wrote it in my journal and read it every few days. Can’t wait to catch up with you in Costa Rica. Sending you big hugs! T xo

Thanks Rachael! I read this quote on the days when I feel overwhelmed by this whole trip and he helps to keep me grounded. Hope you’re well!

    Terri,
Tell your father that Max Lucado’s church is just a few miles from me, and I go there frequently. His assistant is a friend of mine. She helps Max write and edit all of his books. Max Lucado is such a wonderful man! He’s truly inspiring in how he lives God’s word.

    XOXOXOX,
    Brenda

You are BEAMING in that picture. I LOVE it…. and of course…. the quote of the year…… “it’s to live” ….

Love that photo of you looking absolutely beautiful with the Taj Mahal in the background. And yes, adventure is the stuff of life – scary, exciting, mind-growing adventure. I love me some ‘home time’ with a cup of tea, but without variation, fun, and risk, that tea grows a little too predictable.

  • Terri Wingham • March 17, 2012

Thanks so much Catherine! I have had spotty access to Internet lately, but love this comment. There are days I miss the predictable cup of tea, but it’s all embracing where we are and enjoying the hell out of it – whether it’s sweaty days in Africa or cozy cups of tea. Bigs hugs to you my friend! Terri
