ROLE PURPOSE

A cancer diagnosis changes more than a body. It can reshape identity, relationships, and a person’s sense of belonging. A Fresh Chapter addresses a critical gap in cancer care by helping people navigate the mental, emotional, and social dimensions of the experience.

The Mizizi & Amplify Program Lead leads the execution and continuous improvement of Mizizi workshops and the Kenya-based implementation of Amplify, AFC’s facilitator training and development model. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on strong program delivery, facilitator readiness and development, practical systems and documentation, and reliable capture of AFC’s impact. First-year priorities include consistent Mizizi delivery, refinement of the Mizizi Manual, and strengthening facilitator and communications systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mizizi Workshop Execution
  • Partner with the Kenya Country Manager on workshop location planning, local context, community relationships, and partner handoffs.
  • Own the end-to-end execution of Mizizi workshops once locations and partner priorities are confirmed, including preparation, site visits, on-site coordination, follow-up, and data capture.
  • Provide supervisory guidance, accountability, and practical support to the Mizizi Training and Lead Facilitator, ensuring effective facilitator preparation, high-quality in-room facilitation, structured debriefs, and appropriate responses to Mizizi Facilitators.
  • Partner with the Kenya Senior Program Coordinator on budgets, financial requests, receipts, expense tracking, and agreed operational requirements.
  • Ensure workshops have clear roles and strong preparation, and that debriefs, quality concerns, and delivery learning are documented and translated into practical improvements.
Amplify Execution & Facilitator Systems
  • Lead the Kenya-based implementation of Amplify across agreed facilitator pathways, in alignment with AFC’s global strategy, curriculum, and quality standards.
  • Work with the Global Program Director to translate Amplify priorities into practical local plans.
  • Partner with the Mizizi Training and Lead Facilitator to strengthen facilitator readiness, feedback, development, and performance systems.
  • Coordinate with the Kenya Senior Program Coordinator where Amplify intersects with Ignite, shared facilitator systems, virtual programming, participant coordination, or cross-program timelines.
  • Maintain clear facilitator communication, tracking, growth, and accountability systems, while supporting realistic alumni engagement connected to Mizizi and facilitator development.
Systems, Documentation & Communication
  • Lead the refinement of the Mizizi Manual and related program tools, including facilitator guides, workshop agendas, role guides, scripts, debrief tools, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure program practices, participant feedback, facilitator insights, and team learning are documented clearly and used to strengthen delivery.
  • Manage Kenya-based communications consultants or volunteers supporting Mizizi, setting clear expectations, timelines, and deliverables for impact stories, photography, interviews, and other agreed content.
  • Liaise with AFC’s U.S. communications team and coordinate with the Kenya Senior Program Coordinator on consent, scheduling, participant follow-up, file organization, and timely delivery of accurate, high-quality materials.
Cross-Foundational & Local Partnership
  • Partner with the Kenya Country Manager on local context, resource mobilization, partner commitments, and Kenya-specific organizational priorities.
  • Work closely with the Global Program Director to ensure Mizizi and Amplify remain aligned with AFC’s broader program direction.
  • Ensure information, responsibilities, and handoffs move clearly across AFC’s U.S. and Kenya-based teams.
  • Provide accurate program context, participant insights, and delivery information to support communications, measurement, partner, funder, and organizational planning.
  • Surface significant concerns involving program quality, staff or facilitator performance, participants, partners, safeguarding, or organizational risk to the appropriate leader.

DECISION RIGHTS

The Mizizi & Amplify Program Lead will exercise meaningful decision-making authority within agreed program, budget, and organizational parameters for Mizizi workshop execution, Kenya-based Amplify implementation, facilitator readiness systems, direct-report management, program documentation, communications deliverables, and continuous improvement.

They will make recommendations to the Global Program Director and Kenya Country Manager on program plans, staffing and facilitator capacity, significant changes to local delivery systems, and issues affecting program quality or sustainability. Decisions affecting other AFC programs, local fundraising and partner commitments, shared staffing or budgets, curriculum direction, or geographic expansion will be made with the relevant organizational leaders.

How We Use AI in Reviewing Applications

We use an AI-assisted tool to help organize and evaluate the initial application pool. It scores resumes and written responses against criteria drawn from this job description, using a rubric our leadership team reviewed and approved, and it identifies the specific evidence behind every score.

  • AI does not make hiring decisions. It produces a ranked pool with supporting evidence. Every decision about who advances is made by a person, and our leadership team reads the strongest applications directly.
  • Cover letters are excluded from AI review entirely.
  • The tool evaluates only the evidence you provide against the criteria in this posting, not protected characteristics.
  • We’re a small team reviewing a lot of applications for a role that matters to us. We use this tool so every application gets a careful, consistent read — not so we can read fewer of them.
