The Secret To Leaping Through The Dark…

Terri Wingham is the founder and CEO of A Fresh Chapter, a cancer survivor, and someone who believes that we are not defined by the most difficult aspects of our story.

We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal, and then leap in the dark to our success. ~ Henry David Thoreau

When is the last time you did something that absolutely terrified you? Perhaps you acted unafraid as you stepped into thin air and swan dived into the first bungee jump of your life. Or, perhaps the free fall only happened in the pit of your stomach as you got down on one knee to propose or walked into your boss’s office to quit your job, even though you didn’t have another one waiting for you.

Here at A Fresh Chapter, we’ve had some practice jumping off cliffs, yet we have to admit that each time we leave solid ground and plummet through the darkness, the stakes have been raised and it’s more terrifying than ever.

But, like the ancient greek warriors who landed on enemy shores and followed the commander’s orders to “burn the boats”, there is a moment in the pursuit of any big dream when you must go “all in” and choose to stand and fight for victory because you refuse to let fear be your dictator.

If you have followed our #Delhi2013 dream over the last few months, you might have guessed that we recently passed the point of no return. With 8/12 flights booked, this is REALLY happening. In less than a month, our #Delhi2013 Dozen will be on the other side of the world, practicing their Hindi and getting ready to volunteer in local community projects.

As we rocket through the fear of not knowing exactly how we’ll pull this off, we are choosing to believe in the Henry David Thoreau quote above. It’s time to get our survivors to India, introduce them to their volunteer placements, and watch them marvel at the wonder of the Taj Mahal. Let’s give each of them the opportunity to live the hell out of their lives  and leave a legacy.
