What Happens AFTER The Dream Comes True?
Although I wrote this post before buildings exploded in Boston or the ground shook in Iran and Pakistan, I find myself reflecting on some of the parallels between moving forward after senseless tragedy and moving forward after the end of a dream. So even though my heart is heavy and I have no answers for any of the turmoil in our world, I will share these words with you today.
The Moment It Ends…
If you have pulled off anything major in your life – whether it’s a wedding, an epic travel adventure, or even a major deal at work, there is a moment when you stand sipping champagne and thinking, “This is happiness. Right here. Right Now. I’ve made it.”
But, after the last guest has left or your bags are packed for the final time, your adventure ends and the day-to-day realities of life kick back in. What happens then?
One of my favourite parts of our two weeks in India was the last dinner we shared thanks to the generous sponsorship of Sustainable Law Group. We celebrated our new friendships and the fulfillment of our big hairy audacious dream. Then, after the last hug and teary goodbye, we zipped overstuffed suitcases and boarded flights back to our corners of North America. It’s now over a month since the adventure ended and for some, the readjustment continues. Below is an excerpt from an email I wrote to the #Delhi2013 crew last week. (more…)

Oh my goodness, I know that feeling so perfectly well – that “this moment is perfection” feeling. They are held right tight inside of me as memories that I’ll never be able to recapture, and never want to let go. But the wonderful thing is that more will come. It’s heartbreaking to leave friends and experiences that have mattered. Your advice to give forward is wonderful, as is the journal writing. Personally, I find storytelling around those moments to be wonderful. Then, once they are recorded and kept safe, I can move forward.
Anyhow. Of course, I didn’t go to India – except through your videos and blog posts! – but still wanted to say I get it. I so, so get it.
