Empower Workshops
Support With Navigating Life – Whether Living With or Beyond Cancer
Cancer doesn’t discriminate. Regardless of our race, age, gender, sexual orientation, beliefs, or socioeconomic status, cancer comes along and changes everything. Not only do we face the physical challenges of surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy, or a range of side effects, we also have to deal with the often unexpected emotional challenges. We have to figure out how to deal with cancer, while also dealing with the everyday highs and lows of life.
The emotional challenges of cancer are as unique as you are. Perhaps your friendships are changing and the people who used to be there for you have stopped calling. Perhaps you feel really angry at the way cancer has disrupted your plans, but you feel like you have to act like you’re ok so the people who love you won’t worry. Or, perhaps you lie awake at night wondering how you will make the most of the time you have left or you can’t stop thinking about a recurrence. Regardless of your age, stage of cancer, or life circumstances, there is no quick fix to dealing with the uncertainty that comes along with cancer. But, it can help to know that you’re not alone in it.
TAKE BACK YOUR STORY FROM CANCER.
How the Empower Workshops Work
AFC’s Empower Workshops are designed to offer you tools, resources, and support to help you balance both cancer and life. Through Empower, we won’t be sharing our diagnosis and treatment stories or learning about the science of cancer. This is not a typical support group or patient education session. This is also not therapy or intended to replace therapy. Empower Workshops are stand-alone, short-form programs that connect you to others who can relate to what you’ve been through and offer you new tools and points of view to help you find ways to thrive – even when life is difficult.
AFC’s Empower Workshops have been designed in partnership with patients/survivors with many diagnoses who represent a spectrum of lived experiences. We are people of color. We are people of different genders. We are people of various ages. We have mixed professional and career backgrounds.
Workshops will cover a variety of topics, and some examples are listed below.
- What Lights You Up?
- Finding Possibility In the Midst of Uncertainty
- Storytelling for Impact
- How To Handle Other People’s Emotions About Your Cancer Experience
Registration spots will be limited. Make sure you are subscribed to our newsletter to be the first to know when registrations for new workshops open.
