My Next Adventure
Two months ago, I heard about the upcoming Body, Mind, Spirit 2010 Conference in Toronto put on by the Canadian Breast Cancer Network. The information offered at this event is targeted at women who are under 45 and living with breast cancer. I felt compelled to register and am looking forward to connecting with new friends who have shared a similar experience.
Thanks to a generous donation of airline points (you’re the best Mom and Dad), I fly out Thursday morning for Toronto. I look forward to sharing this experience with you. Although I know it will include far fewer glasses of wine than my last adventure, I know it will be memorable.
When I registered, I decided that I should bring some sort of personal card for networking purposes. I still have my business cards from my pre-patient life but given that I haven’t worked in almost a year, I thought I should come up with something for this current ‘non-work’ phase of my life.
Outside of wielding words, I have zero creative talent. Luckily, I have people in my life who inspire me. I called Laurence Warriner, a friend who does freelance work. He generously donated his time to design both a logo and a card for me. As I sat in a little apartment in Piran, Slovenia, I opened up his attachment and admiration flooded through me.
I asked Laurence to share with me how he came up with the design. With his permission, I have included his comments below.
“A Fresh Chapter’s flower logo suggests an optimistic perspective on life. The nine petals symbolize empowerment through self-knowledge, while the colour pink represents femininity and good health. The solitary blue petal highlights the phenomena of emotion, in both its positive and negative aspects, while its relationship with the rest of the flower tells the story of change through challenge, and how a person’s experiences can lead to an evolved sense of self and autonomy. The flower invites us to objectively question the miracle of life, and to take inspiration from it in leading our own lives.”
If you need help with a design project, I cannot recommend Laurence highly enough and I am so grateful for his willingness to help me. Please click on the image to be directed to his Linked In profile.
