Where Would You Go?

The sun creeps through the slats of my dusty beige horizontal blinds and I want to shut my laptop, slide into my shoes and race the three blocks to the beach. I wish I could spend the rest of the day inhaling the cool salty breeze as I burrow my chin into my fluffy grey scarf and watch new moms push bundled up babies down the path or dog owners toss sticks into the sea for their bounding pups.

But, I can’t. I have a book to write, a trip to plan, and a new life to dream up.

I am not complaining. In less than a month, I get to take you with me to volunteer in Cape Town, South Africa for six weeks. Then, we’ll cash in some of my RRSPs and join a GAP Adventure through Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia so that we can hike the sand dunes of Sossusvlei in the Namib desert, ride in a mokoro (dug out canoe) deep into the Okavango jungle, and take a game drive alongside lions, zebras, and giraffes in Etosha National Park.

But for today, I will have to settle for recollecting past adventures and dreaming up new ones.  What about you? As you read this at your desk at work, on your commute home, or in the line at Starbucks, where do you wish you could go? Would you choose any of the destinations on my ever-changing Top Ten list? I would hike the jungles of Papua New Guinea to meet some of the most incredibly colourful indigineous people, who dress themselves and style their hair onrnately to mimic the jungle birds.
