We’re “Screwing Business As Usual” – Are You In?

Terri Wingham is the founder and CEO of A Fresh Chapter, a cancer survivor, and someone who believes that we are not defined by the most difficult aspects of our story.

When is the last time you went “all in” on something? Perhaps your hands shook, but you still took a giant breath and pushed your chips into the centre of the table.

Today we are going ALL IN on our big and hairy dream and we have some crazy, history-making ideas up our sleeve and we need your help to shake things up…

If you read about our #Delhi2013 Dozen, you already know about their trudge through the dark days of cancer treatment. Many of them couldn’t get off the couch for weeks, but now they have committed to stepping onto an aircraft and flying to the other side of the world to volunteer with Cross-Cultural Solutions  in New Delhi, India.

Not only are we supporting these 12 with writing their fresh chapters, #Delhi2013 is also raising awareness about the challenges people face after treatment ends AND shining a spotlight on cancer in the developing world. We hope the willingness of our 12 to share their stories with the people they meet will dispel some of the local stigma surrounding cancer.

And that’s not all. One of the most exciting pieces of #Delhi2013 is that you are coming with us! To ensure you don’t miss a minute of the journey, filmmaker Hal of Moonrider Productions will be with us capturing and sharing our story from India. This opportunity for you to join us in India means that the stories of our #Delhi2013 Dozen will have an immediate ripple effect on people around the world.

In order to pull this Big Hairy Audacious Dream off, we need your support in TWO WAYS:

  1. Financial donations (without your generosity, #Delhi2013 can’t happen); and
  2. Spreading the word. We’re inviting you to join our social media movement (on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and every other corner of the Internet!) to promote #Dehli2013.

What will our social media movement involve?! Well, we have hatched another hairy and audacious plan to help cover our biggest expense: airfare. We’re taking on Richard Branson using his own words: “Screw Business as Usual” (#sbau).

Next Tuesday, November 27th, we are launching a full-scale social media MOB FOR GOOD on Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin group of companies. In this photo shared on the Virgin Unite Facebook Page, Richard says, “Dream big by setting yourself seemingly impossible challenges. You will then have to reach them.” That is EXACTLY what we are doing with #Delhi2013.

Our plan is to convince Sir Richard and Virgin Airlines to support #Delhi2013 by providing our survivors with airline tickets on Virgin Atlantic. It’s a BOLD move, but we believe that together we can create a social media mob that will overwhelm and inspire Virgin to GET ON BOARD!

Next Tuesday, we are going to tell you why we want to fly Virgin and then, we are going to ask you to help us spread the word by pinning, tweeting and facebooking (is facebooking now a verb?) like crazy so everyone at Virgin sits up and asks, “What IS #Delhi2013 and how can we get involved?”

In the meantime, we need to ramp up our fundraising efforts and spread the word. Virgin needs to see the amazing power of our fresh chapter community and be inspired to support our cause.

So, I will leave you with the words of Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”

Join us. Be the change. Scroll up and click on the DONATE button at the top of this page. You can donate in Canadian or American currency and either use PayPal or a credit card. Then tell your family and friends about our crazy-ass idea to get #Delhi2013 on Virgin’s radar. Ask them to donate $10, $20, or $50 to this dream. Then, tweet about the #Delhi2013 Dozen or share this post on Facebook. Even though I have NEVER liked asking for money, today I am so excited to ask for your help because this is not about me. This is about 12 survivors who deserve to believe in big dreams, it’s about them being the voice for survivors who are feeling alone at the end of treatment, and it’s about changing the conversation about cancer globally. I know that when we come together, we can make seemingly impossible dreams come true.

Please donate above and then invite everyone you know to join us in launching our social media mob on Virgin next week. You are part of writing this next audacious chapter and we are honoured to have you in our tribe.

Do you have any big hairy ideas for how we can generate the funds to get #Delhi2013 off the ground? Leave your comments below or click HERE to send us an email. No idea is too crazy to consider.
