Peru Odyssey: Sacred Valley Trip
Sacred Valley Trip
A Fresh Chapter’s once-in-a-lifetime partner, G Adventures is an adventure travel pioneer with a passion for sustainable tourism and a fantastic reputation in the travel industry.
During our once-in-a-lifetime weekend (November 13-16, 2020), we will fly to Cusco and visit the Sacred Valley of Peru for 4 days/3 nights. We will learn more about the rural Peruvian culture as well as visit the incredible ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.
Flight
We will fly from Lima to Cusco on a commercial airline. Details of this flight will be announced later.
Passport
You will need your passport for the weekend’s travels. There is even an opportunity to add a special stamp to your passport at Machu Picchu!
Medical
We have designed our program to be accessible at all stages of the cancer journey. However, our once-in-a-lifetime experience in Peru includes a flight to Cusco/Sacred Valley where there is less access to medical facilities and temporary altitude sickness is common (the elevation is 11,000 feet/3400 meters). You must have no known issues with altitude as well as be comfortable being away form a major medical center for at least four days. All participants will need a medical clearance from their doctors prior to participating in the program.
Many participants like to ask their doctors back home for medication for altitude sickness, which can be taken preventatively, although it comes with possible side effects and is not guaranteed to work.
Accommodations
- We will be staying in a beautiful, yet rustic, hotel in the Sacred Valley. Participants will have roommates and private bathrooms. Beware, it can get chilly overnight in the Andes, and most hotels do not have central heating. Be prepared to dress in layers.
- Most meals will be provided. One dinner will be eaten out on your own, so budget accordingly.
Packing Guide
You will leave your large suitcase back in Lima. A smaller bag for this weekend trip is suggested (it could be your carry on bag.)
Pack layers! It can be warm during the day and cold at night!
For Machu Picchu, we recommend a small backpack with: sunscreen, poncho, snacks, water, sunglasses, bug spray. Wear a hat and a fleece for the morning if it’s chilly. Make sure to wear long pants – the bugs can be terrible at Machu Picchu. Also, be prepared that it could rain.
While it is not required, please plan to leave room in your budget for tipping the G Adventures guides and bus drivers (5-10 soles per person, and 30-40 soles for our main guide.)
