A Fresh Chapter

Sharing Your Story

WRITE A BLOG POST!

As a member of the A Fresh Chapter Tribe, we would love to showcase your stories about A Fresh Chapter on our blog. We regularly share guest blog posts written by our program alumni and other members of our tribe.

Guest Blog Post Guidelines

If you are interested in sharing a story on our blog, please review the below guidelines:

  • Blog posts should be between 500-800 words
  • The blog should have a clear beginning, middle and end – like all good stories!
  • The blog should be written in the first person and also be personal – sharing not just what you did or saw, but also how you felt and what you thought
  • Consider incorporating all of your senses – not just sights and sounds, but smells, tastes and tactile experiences
  • Consider breaking away from a strictly chronological story outline (e.g., “I first heard about A Fresh Chapter when…) and instead bring the reader right into the narrative from the start, before going back to fill in relevant context (e.g., “I’m 3000 miles away from home, standing on the edge of a mountain and holding my breath with 12 other people as the sun begins to rise…)
  • Include 3 high quality images that relate to the content of your story
  • Include a two-sentence biography (30-40 words)
    • Sample two-sentence bio: Tanessa Noll is a Communications Ambassador for A Fresh Chapter, a member of the 2016 Peru Odyssey Tribe, and a Melissa Carroll Legacy Fund recipient. She lives in Shelton, Washington with her husband and two sons.
  • Blog post topics should be somehow related to A Fresh Chapter but aren’t required to be a summary of your experience on program (though they can be!). Some additional potential blog topics include:
    • How you feel like your life has changed/not changed since you returned from program
    • Highlighting a specific, memorable moment on the program and why you think it was so important to you or hard for you or joyous for you
    • Focusing on an aspect of the program that you found particularly challenging/interesting/life-changing: e.g., fundraising for the program, your volunteer placement experience, getting to know your roommate/other tribe members, sharing your story with the group, traveling to a foreign country, working with people who don’t speak your language, etc.
    • What surprised you most/least about the program/the country/the other participants/the program curriculum
    • Your experiences/your family’s experience being away from each other for the duration of the program
    • Your expectations before the program and how they were met/exceeded/not met after your return home

Blog posts can be submitted to Terri at terri@afreshchapter.com. If you want to chat through story ideas, someone on our Communications Team would be happy to connect. We can’t wait to add your voice to our community of storytellers.
