A Fresh Chapter (AFC) is a community built by and for people seeking growth, possibility, and connection after experiencing a cancer diagnosis. Whether you are a survivor, thriver, or caregiver, we offer a culture of belonging and an emphasis on transforming adversity into possibility.

AFC Leaders program
A Fresh Take on Leadership Development
The AFC Leaders Program is a foundational leadership and professional development program that builds upon the themes offered in our virtual Ignite Experience. The core program consists of six weeks of virtual one-hour sessions where we explore leadership through the lens of AFC’s tools as well as I.D.E.A. (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility). Those that complete the core program also have the opportunity to register for additional training sessions related to advocacy, facilitation, and project leadership.

IGNITE EXPERIENCE
Ten-week virtual program to find connection, growth, and belonging.
Gain the tools, perspective, and community you need to heal emotionally and redefine your story – whether living with or beyond cancer. Join weekly video calls, experience AFC’s unique personal growth programming, and explore a new opportunity to volunteer in your community.

EMPOWER WORKSHOPS
One-time virtual workshops that are different.
This is not a typical support group or patient education session! Discover new tools, resources, and support to help you balance both cancer and life. Join our introductory 60-90 minute programs that connect you to others who can relate to what you’ve been through and offer you new tools and points of view to help you find ways to thrive – even when life is difficult.

mizizi workshops
Grassroots Workshops for Cancer Patients, Survivors, & Caregivers
Mizizi workshops are half-day interactive in-person workshops bringing AFC’s skills and concepts to communities across Kenya. Discover tools and frameworks to build emotional awareness and resilience while connecting with others in your community affected by cancer.

KENYA ELEVATE PROGRAM
Build leadership and cross-cultural exchange through a global leadership program.
The Elevate Fellowship Program brings together North Americans and Africans impacted by cancer for an immersive, cross-cultural, peer-to-peer advocacy initiative that includes virtual programming and a two-week onsite experience in Kenya. All Fellows gain new perspectives and leadership skills as well as play an instrumental role in expanding access to AFC’s local programs.
The 10-week Ignite Experience (see above) is a prerequisite to applying for an Elevate Fellowship Program.
Amplify Program
CERTIFIED PEER FACILITATOR TRAINING PROGRAM FOR AFC ALUMNI
We are excited to be growing our team of facilitators to offer one-of-a-kind support through our Ignite, Empower, Mizizi, and Elevate Programs. Amplify is our comprehensive peer facilitator certification program open to AFC alumni — individuals who have all been impacted by cancer. Amplify instills skills of emotional awareness and compassionate leadership, empowering today’s patients, survivors and caregivers and galvanizing the leaders, mentors, and advocates of tomorrow.
The 10-week Ignite Experience (see above) is a prerequisite to applying for the Amplify Facilitator Training Program.
