Fundraising, Scholarships & Fellowships

A Fresh Chapter (AFC) believes in empowering our participants to play an active role in making their fresh chapter experience a reality. Individuals accepted into one of our Odyssey programs have the option to cover the associated program fee via a payment, individual fundraising, a scholarship or fellowship, or a combined approach.

Fundraising

With more than two hundred participant campaigns launched so far, we have seen how fundraising can be a powerful part of the healing process. When our participants step out of their comfort zones to share their stories and ask for support, they shine a light on the emotional scars of cancer and give their community a chance to contribute in a meaningful way and feel part of their experience.

AFC provides ongoing fundraising support with a number of tools including online resources, fundraising mentorship, and an online community of alumni where you can ask questions, share ideas, and get insights. Since our first program, every participant to launch a campaign has been able to fundraise at least a portion of the program fee – with some far exceeding their goals! For those who can fundraise more than the program cost, we kindly request they help subsidize those who can fundraise less.

In addition to fundraising, AFC has both Scholarships and Fellowships available to offset the program fee.

Program Cost

A program that includes travel, cultural immersion, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and significant support over a period of at least 6 months is an investment in yourself and your future. The current program fee for all AFC Onsite International Odyssey programs is $4,964.00 (plus flights). AFC is committed to creating transformational programming and continues to work with partners and donors to help offset the costs, so we can create the best possible experience for our participants. We are also committed to growing our scholarship and subsidy opportunities so that our programs are within reach for people from all socio-economic backgrounds.

The program fee includes the full 20+ week program, your two-week international volunteer experience (including all accommodation, most meals, volunteering, cultural activities, programming, in-country transportation) as well as the once-in-a-lifetime experience (including transportation, accommodation, and meals – when applicable). Non-included costs include roundtrip airfare to the international destination and spending money for optional activities, snacks, and shopping.

Initially, I was hesitant to fundraise for my trip because I didn’t feel I was worthy of that type of support. But Terri (A Fresh Chapter’s Founder) convinced me that it was part of my journey and that it was a way to be fully present in the Odyssey experience. Admitting that I was hurting and in need of a change was huge for me. To my surprise, my honesty was greeted with overwhelming support, kind words and love that literally knocked me off my feet! Through this experience, I learned that it was safe to share, to admit weakness, and as a result, I have already begun the healing process.
