Integrate #10: Empower Change

Integrate Series #10: Empower Change

The definition of change is to make or become different.

As we think about making changes in our lives, we can sometimes get bogged down by what might go wrong or what we might lose. Perhaps it’s job stability, a relationship, or even a dream we had held for our lives. But, what about what we might gain? Or, how we might grow and evolve because of this change and how this growth can prepare us for other opportunities in our lives?

Is there a change you are contemplating making in your life? What scares you and excites you the most about this change?

As we discussed, when thinking about this change practice asking yourself the question, ”Why not?” and see what emerges.

If the reasons to avoid making the change relate to fear (your own or other people’s), challenge yourself to think about what will empower you to take the first step towards making the change.

As we contemplate change, it’s important to remind ourselves that nothing is permanent. Each of us has the power to evolve our decisions as time and new information presents itself. We are always allowed to go back to the way things were or pivot in a new direction.

If the idea of making the change today feels too overwhelming, how might you focus on empowering yourself to feel stronger and more courageous to create change in the future?

Activity

Can you explore one bite-sized change you’d like to make? What is the first step towards making that change? What is the first step towards that first step? This week, the invitation is to only focus on the very first step as a way to feel empowered and to remind yourself that you don’t have to make sweeping changes in your life to make a difference.

Write or Create Read More

There is no right way to tackle the reflection prompts below. You can answer any, all, or none of the questions. You can either write the answers in a more traditional journaling format (either in a physical journal or an online journal) or you could explore the creative process of art journaling. Other options are to sit down with someone in your life or connect with someone in your tribe and ask these questions of each other. Whatever reflection mode you choose, you are welcome to answer any, all, or none of the questions. This is simply an opportunity to carve out some time to reflect and see what emerges.

  • What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?
  • How does it make me feel to see those words on the page?
  • What micro change might I make in my life this week?
  • Who can I share my excitement and fears about making this change with?
