Integrate Series #3: Creating Ease
Doesn’t it feel like lifetimes ago that we talked about Ease by introducing the question, “If this were easy, what would it look like?”
Now that you’re back to your everyday life, it can be difficult to remember this question. For many of us, life is busy and complicated in different ways. When we are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, it can be hard to take a step back and see things from a different perspective.
Asking yourself this question is not about oversimplifying a problem. It’s about taking a step back and seeing if you can get some clarity and see things from a new perspective.
How might you begin to introduce this practice into your daily life?
Activity
Right now, what feels particularly overwhelming in your life? This could be something big or even something seemingly small. Be curious about why it feels so complicated. Can you ask yourself the question, “What would this look like if it were easy?”
This week, every time you start to feel overwhelmed, come back to this question. Practice asking it and give yourself permission to experiment with what emerges. Maybe the answers are ridiculous and impractical, but maybe by taking a step back, you can come up with suggestions that might help you feel less stuck.
There is no right way to tackle the reflection prompts below. You can answer any, all, or none of the questions. You can either write the answers in a more traditional journaling format (either in a physical journal or an online journal) or you could explore the creative process of art journaling. Other options are to sit down with someone in your life or connect with someone in your tribe and ask these questions of each other. Whatever reflection mode you choose, you are welcome to answer any, all, or none of the questions. This is simply an opportunity to carve out some time to reflect and see what emerges.
- What feels the most overwhelming in my life right now?
- If this were easy, what would it look like?
- How might I give myself permission to lean into this practice?
